Mr. Ainsley Powell has been appointed as Commissioner General of Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), effective October 1, 2014.
He served as the acting Commissioner General from 2012 to the time of his appointment.
He previously held positions as Chief Technical Advisor for Tax Administration Jamaica and was the Commissioner of the former Taxpayer Audit and Assessment Department (TAAD).
He is a well-respected tax expert and is known for his technical competence. He has represented Jamaica at several tax conferences and seminars both locally and internationally.
His other working experiences in taxation include:
- Deputy Commissioner – Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax, Technical Specialist, TAAD
- Bauxite Audit Specialist, Income Tax
- Programme Instructor for the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC)
- Jamaica’s representative to the Caribbean Organisation of Tax Administrators (COTA) and the Inter-American Centre of Tax Administrations (CIAT)
In the business fraternity, Ainsley Powell is known as a tax ‘guru’.
Also known for his family values, he is a devoted husband and father of two children.
